However, we MAY require additional visits, drug counseling, drug screens, or non-stimulant medications. We WILL require your commitment to abstain from all illicit and mood controlling substances such as marijuana, alcohol, sleep medications, anxiety medications, and others and assist you in this process. ADHD is divided into three categories: Inattentive ADHD, Hyperactive ADHD and combined ADHD. It is not simply being forgetful or impulsive at times. ADHD is neurodevelopmental disorder that is persistent and affects people’s relationships and job prospects. This can lead to drug use to cope. Many hyperactive symptoms of ADHD tend to subside in adulthood as the brain matures. In many cases, patients can function without medications to their satisfaction with appropriate behavior interventions including a structured environment. • Greater efficiency at work that leads to improved business income and job promotions. Patients find they are able to get their work completed on time rather than work taking hours longer than others.
  • Better school performance. Patient’s frequently complain before treatment of their mind wandering in class and having to study hours more than their peers to retain the same material.
  • ADHD is one of the most successfully treated conditions in medicine. The medications work, and they work remarkably fast.
  • Improved relationships. Many with Adult ADHD do not realize their relationships are impaired. Most of the time, friends and family can honestly describe the problems such as: Talking over others, interrupting others, having multiple unfinished and important projects, losing important bills and paperwork, grades suffering, inability to sit still, and the feeling that the person with ADHD is just not listing to them. Most patients do not have all symptoms of ADHD. It only requires have a number of symptoms that are impairing to receive treatment.
  • Improved memory: For those with ADHD, information does not go into memory correctly because they are distracted with other thoughts. We have found people better able to recall events more easily, people’s names, and they are able to compose their thoughts better when talking to others. No more excessive sticky notes spread out over a workstation.
  • ADHD medications are safe. They are not addicting when used as prescribed. There are some situations where they need to be avoided as in active drug use or certain cardiac disorders and they can increase blood pressure in some individuals. However, we have found ourselves in only a few situations where we could not treat with medications.
  • They work better and faster than therapy. There are many benefits of therapy to help those with ADHD. Realistically, most patients cannot afford ongoing therapy due to cost and time. There are very good workbooks that can be used. Note: Many patients with limited ADHD symptoms can find adequate relief of symptoms without medications by behavioral management of structuring their environment. Usually, patients that see us have more severe ADHD. We DO recommend implementing a calendar system and structuring you day. A therapist can be very beneficial in those struggling to do so.
